Could your skills and experience help make a difference to a local children’s charity?
Moss Hall Playcentre is looking for 3 new volunteer trustees from our wider community to join our Board and help shape the next chapter of our charity.

Based at Moss Hall Schools Federation in North Finchley, we’ve been part of the local community for more than 25 years, providing children with a safe and nurturing environment where child-led play is at the heart of what we do.
You don’t need previous trustee experience. We’re looking for people who care about children’s play, development and wellbeing and who would like to bring their experience and perspective to a worthwhile local cause.
Moss Hall Playcentre is an independent, not-for-profit charity providing affordable after-school and holiday childcare for families in North Finchley and the surrounding community.
For more than 25 years, we’ve provided children with a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where they have the freedom to play, explore, imagine, build friendships and be themselves.
Child-led play is at the heart of Moss Hall Playcentre. Rather than filling children’s time with structured activities, our experienced playworkers create opportunities for children to choose how they spend their time, develop their independence and confidence, and enjoy the kind of free play that can be increasingly difficult to find in busy childhoods.
At the same time, we provide reliable and affordable childcare that supports local families during the school holidays and at the end of the school day.
Our trustees help make all of this possible.

Moss Hall Playcentre is looking to welcome 3 new trustees to our Board from our wider community, bringing fresh perspectives and additional expertise to help guide the charity into the future.
Our trustees play an important role in making sure Moss Hall Playcentre is well governed, financially sustainable and focused on what matters most: providing high-quality, play-based and affordable childcare for children and families in our community.
Joining the Board is an opportunity to contribute to the future direction of an established local charity, work alongside other trustees and the Moss Hall Playcentre team, and make a practical difference.
We’re interested in what you can bring to the Board, and you’ll be supported as you learn about the role and the responsibilities that come with it.
To support our existing parent/user trustees, we’re looking for people with different professional and life experiences and would particularly welcome people with experience in areas such as:
You may already have useful skills from your career, volunteering or other life experience without ever thinking of them as “trustee skills”.
What matters is that you’re willing to contribute, ask questions, work collaboratively with others and share our commitment to supporting children, families and the value of play.
That’s absolutely fine. Previous trustee experience isn’t required.
Many of the skills that make someone a valuable trustee come from everyday professional and life experience. You might already be used to managing budgets, leading people, making decisions, asking challenging questions, understanding policies or looking at the bigger picture.
As a trustee, you won’t be expected to run Moss Hall Playcentre’s day-to-day operations. Instead, you’ll work collectively with the other trustees to provide oversight, contribute ideas and experience, consider information carefully and help make sound decisions about the charity’s future.
You’ll receive an induction when you join the Board, with ongoing training and development available to help you understand your responsibilities and grow into the role.

Being a trustee is a responsible role, but it doesn’t need to take over your life.
Moss Hall Playcentre trustees meet six times a year, with meetings usually lasting around two hours. Meetings can be attended in person or remotely.
Between meetings, trustees should allow approximately three hours a month to read papers, consider policies, follow up agreed actions and contribute to Board matters when needed.
Trustees work together as a Board to:
Trustee appointments are for a four-year term, giving you the opportunity to get to know Moss Hall Playcentre, develop your understanding of the charity and make a lasting contribution over time.
Becoming a trustee is a chance to support a local charity you care about, but it can also be a valuable opportunity for your own development.
As a Moss Hall Playcentre trustee, you’ll have the opportunity to:
Whether you’re looking to broaden your professional experience, use skills developed over your career in a different way, or simply give something back to your local community, trusteeship can be a rewarding way to do it.
If the opportunity sounds interesting, we’d love to hear from you.
